Feedback about Our Work

Your writers do such a good job of telling about the humor and reality of parenting,
and of making parents feel their role was important, not by producing perfect children or
homes, but by simply being there for their kids.
- K.K.
I've laughed, I've cried, I've read articles to my husband and hung poems up
on my fridge. I own all three books.
Thank you again for speaking to my heart & for making a difference.
-L.B.
Thank you for all these years of fellow-parenting camaraderie, support, and
encouragement. So often the articles spoke to my everyday concerns and worries as a
mother-at-home. I was affirmed in what I was doing with my children and inspired by
the stories of other families.
-C.R.
I appreciate enormously your efforts to support the message that raising children
is not something to be squeezed into the corners of a parent's life.
-M.B.
I work one or two days outside the home as a nurse while my husband is home with
our children–ages three-and-a-half years and six years. They are the joy in my day,
and I cherish them so deeply. I often feel the pull to work more and to make more
money. You help me keep my priorities focused on my home and family.
-L.B.

What's New

|
The national non-profit 501(c)(3) organization Family and Home Network
offers support, information and advocacy to parents–and focuses on
children's needs for generous amounts of time and consistent
nurturing relationships. We are a grassroots, member-supported organization, now celebrating
25 years! Please become a member today and join in our ongoing work.
Highlights of our Work
- Offering a wealth of information on our website, including these
recent additions:
- Speaking up to the media and policy makers about families in which parents forgo or cut back on paid
employment in order to spend time with their children, about the misuse of statistics on mothers and work,
and about the Campaign for Inclusive Family Policies–calling for public policies that respect and support
parents regardless of how they meet their income-earning and caregiving responsibilities. Please see more
about our advocacy work here.
- For 21 years (1984-2004) published the monthly, 32-page journal
Welcome Home – winner of several Parents' Choice Awards for Excellence
in Parenting Publications. We now offer "Best of" collections
from Welcome Home, as well as
back issues, along with the many Welcome Home articles posted on our website.
- Publisher of books for parents: dispelling myths about
at-home parents, addressing common issues for new mothers, sharing parents' feelings through
poetry and art, and celebrating humor in family life.
Current Leadership
Dedicated volunteers and staff have contributed tens of thousands of hours to
Family and Home Network over the years. Meet our current volunteer Board of Directors
and Executive Director.
Please consider volunteering
your time and expertise.
Goals for 2010 and Beyond
- Launch Family and Home Network's new website (target date: January 2010). It is
being built with open source tools (Drupal and CiviCRM) and volunteer labor. A professional
graphic artist is donating her services to design a new logo and color palette. The new
website tools will enable FAHN's volunteers create and manage website content. FAHN
members will have great opportunities to comment, participate in creating content and
connect with powerful social networking features.
- Build the capacity of Family and Home Network by increasing membership and engaging
more volunteers in the organization's work.
- Educate policymakers about inclusive family policies, sending information to each
member of Congress, to Governors of each of the states and to policy analysts at think tanks.
- Continue to build support for FAHN's Campaign for Inclusive Family Policies among
leaders of other national parenting organizations, as well as among the general public
through articles, editorials and web postings.
- Publish workshop guides for local community use in small group settings,
to encourage parents and affirm the critical importance of nurturing time.
